Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Windows 3.1 (customized colour scheme).png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Windows 3.1 (customized colour scheme).png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Screenshots
[edit]- Please upload screenshots in PNG format, in the native resolution of the software. Not JPG, not resized. A JPG is a lossy image format, that sacrifices image fidelity for size. This becomes very noticeable in software screenshots, which contain text and regular shapes. The compression artefacts are not acceptable. The image should be saved in PNG directly from the bitmap capture, JPG or other lossy formats must never come in between. Also, resizing a screenshot makes it lost clarity and become blurry, thats also not acceptable. So, please do not resize a screenshot before uploading. JPG images or resized images will never be preferred over high quality PNG screenshots, even if the latter might not be of the latest version.
Also, images should not be taken off the web if possible. And it is preferred that they are shown without any customization and the screen that is most visible (that includes not including the Help/About window). Thanks. And for changes that might face resistance, please engage in discussion and not in revert warring. --soum talk 19:04, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
My Response
[edit]I made that myself as i am running Server 2008 now and i thought people would like to see evidence that the version number is the newest one and im not making it up. i will reupload in .png i cant see the problem with it and i dont know what the fair rational is disputed means. as other people have pics of the same thing. also i cant see whats wrong with my windows 3.1 either. please tell me why they are disputed then i will think about it. thank you
IE7/Server 2008 image
[edit]I deleted it because it was orphanned, i.e., not used in any articles. The image is a copyrighted image, and as such used under fair use rules. Such an image will be kept only if it is used in at least one article, otherwise it will be deleted. I deleted it for this reason, not because
I was offline for a few days, so am not aware of any current disputes. If the image is the subject of a dispute, I suggest you resolve it first through talks, and not revert warring. Once it is settled, you can either reupload the picture. Or let me know, and I will undelete the image. All the best.
As for your image/fair use question above, I am not aware of the Windows 3.1 image. As for the IE7/Aero/Server 2008 one, a screenshot is not needed to demonstrate a minor version change. Since the image is barely different from the Vista version, there is no need to replace in the IE7 article. Also, in the Server 2008 article, there is no need to demonstrate Aero. It could be done in the Windows Aero, however, visually it is the same as Windows Vista. So, it becomes redundant. Thats why the image is being opposed.
As for fair use rationales, it should explain why the image is needed and is irreplaceable. See WP:FUR for how to write good rationales. As I already said, people will ask the question about the necessity of this when the Vista version is already there. This has to be explained properly - why a screenshot is needed and why just saying aero is supported on Server 2k8 is not enough. We use screenshots to demonstrate features. The IE7 and Aero screenshots from Vista perfectly shows both Aero and IE7. The Server 2K8 shot adds nothing. You can, if you wish to demonstrate something from Server 2K8, take the screenshot of something unique. Such as the AD management snap-in. You can turn Aero on. That will be server both the purposes. --soum talk 02:07, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:MPL4.50.310.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:MPL4.50.310.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Additionally, if you continue uploading bad images, you may be blocked from uploading. Speedy deletion of The Black Aftermath
[edit]A tag has been placed on The Black Aftermath requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. andy (talk) 19:36, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Your recent edits
[edit]Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. License tagging for File:Chilternhillsacademy.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Chilternhillsacademy.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
